MUSICALLY CENTERED STAGING

operatic stage direction
by a classically trained singer-actor

Starting in 2003, Harley directed several fully staged productions with orchestra (La bohème, Eugene Onegin, Carmen) at the Lowell House Opera, the longest running opera company on the eastern seaboard. As a faculty member at the University of North Carolina, from 2007-10, she created interdisciplinary opera stagings that involved faculty and students from music, dance, theatre, and architecture disciplines.  One of these, Dido and Aeneas, which implemented a motion-capture suit and projected avatars, was featured in Architecture Magazine in 2007. In 2024, she directed the semi-staged production of The Voyage of Edgar Allan Poe by Pulitzer Prize-winning American composer, Dominick Argento for Opera Odyssey.
